Overview

What is the scope or scale of the playing area?

Gameplay Scope

  • Open world: a seamless environment that the player can traverse however they wish
  • Set pieces: gameplay takes place in distinct areas--traversing them requires a loading screen
  • Procedurally generated: similar to an open world, this is, for all intents and purposes, a limitless play area, as new environments are generated as needed
  • Linear: A limited version of open world (or a variant on set pieces) most often found in earlier games, where game play proceeds in a line from the start point to the end.
